  • Coinach says:

I believe the world has walked this way before. We need to do something quickly. That means Every person on Mother Earth. We can all do our bit, and will.

  • William says:

An Australian opposition of climate sceptics supported by capitalists, major polluters and wannabes nearly, 50% of the population, no controls on population, ever decreasing water and little sense of urgency, that’s what we have. Nothing changes until it has to, the majority will pay more for essentials and fight even harder to make the money to pay the increased cost of living, while the less wealthy will become poorer. Finally when people we identify with dying of thirst and hunger we will organise, change our national lifestyle and values but probably before then it will be changed for us by nature. Copenhargen with all the opertunities that are there is already dead in, whats left of, the water.
Green-wash, you havnt heard anything yet and the lack of progress will all be somebody else’s fault.

Email just released reveals how our Prime Minister really feels about Climate Change and the World’s poor.
What words can be said in his defence

  • Ben Marshall says:

Agree with Jason – the content starts two minutes in. Love your work but cut to the chase guys.

  • Ron McCullagh says:

You have to wonder why the corporate world and conservative politicions are so opposed to any action on climate change. It’s obvious they are fearful of change as they may be disadvantaged in ways they can’t foresee. But I think it is more that any changes made must involve close government scrutiny of every aspect of company operations and this on top of the fallout from the financial meltdown has them in a siege mentality. So it would seem to make sense to at least bring these fears out in the open. Then we may be able to make sense of the irrational opposition to everything that is being proposed to alleviate climate change. One way or another the problem will be resolved it is just a matter of how many humans and other species will be left.

For all your efforts guys I am concerned that even the abc laughed at the frightening film show stating that what the world needs is optimism not another scary nightmare!
I think it is true No one does care if we lose islanders People are still discussing xmas and Kris kringles.I am on the walk against warming tomorrow and I guess it may well be the same number as last year or less!

The daily telegraph had a double page spread yesterday and told everybody that carbon is essential to life and that the barrier reef has never been in such good shape! How do scientists compete with Ian Pilmer Mr. Billiton esq?

Thank you for what you do getup! Cheers Liz

  • Kerry Turner says:

Thanks for all your hard work.

I feel it might be a good time for people to start being honest with themselves about what is really happening here on planet Earth. Our great planet has been here for a very long time and will continue to do so long after we have consumed ourselves out of existence. If the human species continues to consume in the same old destructive ways then there is a very high chance our very existence will be threathened. Perhaps the human race needs to be put on the endangered species list.

  • Jason says:

    am i missing something?

where is the content? 2 minutes of zapping around the venue doesn’t do it for me.

    • Liz says:

      I’m with you Jason.
What’s with the flashing animations and swooshing sound effects?
I want to know what’s actually going on.

  • Jo Vallentine says:

thanks Get-Up team – so good that you’re there. thanks to young christina -wonderful. Inspiring. Love the FAB requests ….. keepup the great work. Looking forward to hearing the story from your perspective each day.
Have you found the big tent outside, and the yrts and tepees, where the Cop Bottom conference is being held? the alternative conference of grassroots people from round the world, who are mostly already doing the deep, dark green actions required at a personal leve……and dreaming and creating visions for the globalcommunity. check them out, please bring us some of theirnews too!

    thanks heaps. Best wishes.

    Jo Vall.

  • glynis Howarth says:

Thanks for helping keeping me upto date on this important event.
Copenhaagen(which ever way you say it) is our worlds only hope

  • Lee Boyett says:

Just a small point. The Nazis were fond of the pronunciation ‘Copen haaaagen’. People in the know say Copen’hay’gen. Small point but important.

    Good luck.

  • KLM says:

Great video guys. It’s important to highlight how big in scale this conference is. It looks like there are hundreds of rooms, hundreds of corridors, hundreds of perspectives. Just watching it made my gut clench with fear. My instinct is to feel lost and helpless. We’ve got to keep pulling back to the big picture though. Everyone has something massive in common – our environment. It doesn’t need to be this hard and this scary. Let’s embrace a future full of opportunity and help our leaders focus on what’s at stake here – our survival and our home in this beautiful world.

  • Sam says:

Great introductory video. Can you put some rough but concrete numbers on fair and ambitious, what does that actually translate to in terms $$ and CO2 reductions?

  • Mary-Ann says:

Thanks for the update! Now we look forward to hear more about what is actually happening there. Have meetings taken place already? What were the outcomes? Let us know who are the Australian representants in Cop and what will be their roles exactly. How do you have access to the information, outcomes of discussions? Are they published? Public? Do you sit through meetings? let us know a bit more about the agendas of the discussions – that would be great! Day 3 already, are things going well you think?
Great work and looking forward to hear more!

  • Jenny says:

    Hey GetUp crew
what a wicked video and really nicely capturing the vibe over here. I hope you get outside of the Bella Centre a bit to show the folks back home that it’s not only what’s happening with the politicians and all the acronyms and minutiae of the proceedings but that there are lots of real, passionate people in Copenhagen trying to find ways to work together and to transition to a low carbon future.

So I agree with Ken above but also to say that people at Klimaforum and other civil society events are essentially trying to work out ways that the social movement on climate change can gather & grow – will look forward to your coverage on this.

    Keep up the great work!

  • Ken says:

Is the very conference itself not already just one big giant greenwash. Over 20,000 people gathered in one place to do what exactly if (a) it comes down to an agreement/treaty that is nutted out behind a few closed doors that does not take on polluters (b) lots and lots of people all churning up the carbon to get there…and once there to do what exactly (c) the millions and millions spent on getting those lots and lots of people there, feed them, transport them, house them and accommodate in what look like pretty damn luxurious facilities to rush around doing what exactly. But ooops, pardon me for being so cynical.Look forward to coverage of what happens outside and not the bull and hot air that will be happening inside.

    • Chris says:

I see Ken’s cynical outlook has preceeded mine in a like fashion.Global conglomerates are lobbying now allover and will not lose profit margins for a FAB planet.I have faith in GETUP but not the outcome of this conference. Follow the money.

  • Jill says:

Thanks for the fantastic video – let’s hope we get a FAB agreement.

I look forward to the next update!

  • Mike says:

Thanks / Thanks / Thanks…We will be guided by getup as to what is required. Will do all we can from Oz. CopTV is V effective. Will be sharing it in 30 seconds from now.

  • Timbo says:

Great work guys! Thanks for the update.

  • Moira says:

    Thank You! F-A-B !

  • Helen says:

Great to feel as if I was there! Let’s hope it is so much more than a gigantic talk fest, and that genuine, courageous, powerful action for change is the outcome. I have 8 grandchildren, and I want the world they grow up in to be a good place to inhabit.

  • Chris says:

Bloody excellent video guys – thanks for the update. It’s terrifying how much power lies in our generation’s hands. I’m looking forward to being able to take action on this!

  • Samantha says:

Great presentation. Having so many people focused on a better future must surely make an impact, but I can’t help but feel that, even when politicans have a clear mandate to take a strong stand, there are powerful forces out there making more of an impression than any numbers of “the common man” can outweigh. The people of the world need to pressure the corporate world directly as well as the governments. The debate is no longer about when but what, & who is going to profit the most by taking up the opportunities that the brave new world without fossil fuels presents to us.

    • Kerry says:

Thanks for the update. I eagerly await the next one. I agree with Samantha. While no doubt members of the corporate world are in Copenhagen lobbying, and of course they have every right to do so, they need to tell the people of the world what they want to see achieved at the conference. I would also like to know what climate mitigating plans/funding/research various corporations might be committed to, and what they intend to commit to in the future.

  • Joan says:

Lets all hope and pray that sanity will prevail and the result of this conference is a positive and co-operative step forward.

  • Rosanna says:

This is pretty exciting. A great video.
I look forward to hearing more about what is happening in Denmark. It is encouraging to know that even though I am miles away I can have a say and can try to make a positive difference.

  • Ross says:

Good simple first presentatiion clearly explained nice work
I look forward to further presentations
I wonder is someone measuring the carbon footprint of the Copenhagen summit?

  • Annette says:

Great to have you there. Will do whatever I can- no matter how little – to help. We and especially island nations can’t wait.

  • Mark says:

This is a fantastic video. We can’t afford to wait. John Kennedy said something once, as the world stood on the brink of nuclear annihilation that I think applies equally to the devastation we face on climate change and why the world must act together:
“For in the final analysis, our most basic common link is that we all inhabit this small planet. We all breathe the same air. We all cherish our children’s futures. And we are all mortal.”

  • Elle says:

This video is awesome! Hope you guys follow the Aussie negotiators all week and make them talk the talk…

  • Tom says:

Some serious production values right there. And how huge is the place where it’s being held! I felt a bit dizzy as we were zipped around.

Eager to find out how the negotiations unfold. Keep us informed!

  • Sara says:

Great video! makes me feel like I’m actually there with all of you guys!

  • Kate says:

Looks amazing! How exciting to be amongst the thick of the action!
Now we can only hope that the getting together of so many people leads to positive and binding action!
