An Australian opposition of climate sceptics supported by capitalists, major polluters and wannabes nearly, 50% of the population, no controls on population, ever decreasing water and little sense of urgency, that’s what we have. Nothing changes until it has to, the majority will pay more for essentials and fight even harder to make the money to pay the increased cost of living, while the less wealthy will become poorer. Finally when people we identify with dying of thirst and hunger we will organise, change our national lifestyle and values but probably before then it will be changed for us by nature. Copenhargen with all the opertunities that are there is already dead in, whats left of, the water.
Green-wash, you havnt heard anything yet and the lack of progress will all be somebody else’s fault.

You have to wonder why the corporate world and conservative politicions are so opposed to any action on climate change. It’s obvious they are fearful of change as they may be disadvantaged in ways they can’t foresee. But I think it is more that any changes made must involve close government scrutiny of every aspect of company operations and this on top of the fallout from the financial meltdown has them in a siege mentality. So it would seem to make sense to at least bring these fears out in the open. Then we may be able to make sense of the irrational opposition to everything that is being proposed to alleviate climate change. One way or another the problem will be resolved it is just a matter of how many humans and other species will be left.

For all your efforts guys I am concerned that even the abc laughed at the frightening film show stating that what the world needs is optimism not another scary nightmare!
I think it is true No one does care if we lose islanders People are still discussing xmas and Kris kringles.I am on the walk against warming tomorrow and I guess it may well be the same number as last year or less!

The daily telegraph had a double page spread yesterday and told everybody that carbon is essential to life and that the barrier reef has never been in such good shape! How do scientists compete with Ian Pilmer Mr. Billiton esq?

I feel it might be a good time for people to start being honest with themselves about what is really happening here on planet Earth. Our great planet has been here for a very long time and will continue to do so long after we have consumed ourselves out of existence. If the human species continues to consume in the same old destructive ways then there is a very high chance our very existence will be threathened. Perhaps the human race needs to be put on the endangered species list.

I see Ken’s cynical outlook has preceeded mine in a like fashion.Global conglomerates are lobbying now allover and will not lose profit margins for a FAB planet.I have faith in GETUP but not the outcome of this conference. Follow the money.

Have you found the big tent outside, and the yrts and tepees, where the Cop Bottom conference is being held? the alternative conference of grassroots people from round the world, who are mostly already doing the deep, dark green actions required at a personal leve……and dreaming and creating visions for the globalcommunity. check them out, please bring us some of theirnews too!

Just a small point. The Nazis were fond of the pronunciation ‘Copen haaaagen’. People in the know say Copen’hay’gen. Small point but important.

Great video guys. It’s important to highlight how big in scale this conference is. It looks like there are hundreds of rooms, hundreds of corridors, hundreds of perspectives. Just watching it made my gut clench with fear. My instinct is to feel lost and helpless. We’ve got to keep pulling back to the big picture though. Everyone has something massive in common – our environment. It doesn’t need to be this hard and this scary. Let’s embrace a future full of opportunity and help our leaders focus on what’s at stake here – our survival and our home in this beautiful world.

Let us know who are the Australian representants in Cop and what will be their roles exactly. How do you have access to the information, outcomes of discussions? Are they published? Public? Do you sit through meetings? let us know a bit more about the agendas of the discussions – that would be great! Day 3 already, are things going well you think?

Hey GetUp crew
what a wicked video and really nicely capturing the vibe over here. I hope you get outside of the Bella Centre a bit to show the folks back home that it’s not only what’s happening with the politicians and all the acronyms and minutiae of the proceedings but that there are lots of real, passionate people in Copenhagen trying to find ways to work together and to transition to a low carbon future.

So I agree with Ken above but also to say that people at Klimaforum and other civil society events are essentially trying to work out ways that the social movement on climate change can gather & grow – will look forward to your coverage on this.

Thanks for the update. I eagerly await the next one. I agree with Samantha. While no doubt members of the corporate world are in Copenhagen lobbying, and of course they have every right to do so, they need to tell the people of the world what they want to see achieved at the conference. I would also like to know what climate mitigating plans/funding/research various corporations might be committed to, and what they intend to commit to in the future.
