Inspiring stuff – GetUp members funded 17 year-old Solomon Islander Christina Ora’s trip to Copenhagen. Yesterday she was selected as the only youth representative to address the conference – and did an absolutely amazing job! That’s the power of our movement – thanks to everyone who chipped in to make this magical moment possible. Check out the video here, and stay tuned for more updates from our fantastic Pacific delegates!

Thank you Christina for being such a strong advocate of my children’s generation. I truly believe the only way we are going to get a FAB deal is if young people like you continue to hold the older generations to account. And thank you GetUp for the great coverage and all your hard work!

  • Carole says:

Thank you Christina for your short and to the point speech. I hope your voice is heard. Your reference to your age and that of the conference was a stoke of genius. It is so good that you are there as an intelligent representative for youth everywhere. You are a great embassador for us all.

  • Heather Dunn says:

Thank you so much,Christina, for speaking for us all- and for speaking for the Pacific Nations, and for young people from every part of the globe. Those of us in the Pacific region appreciate and share the concern of the island states, who are suffering even now the effects of climate change on lands, seas and lifestyles.
We need thousands of Christinas to stand up and speak so well about their future and the impact we all make upon it.

  • Nicole says:

Thank you so much for sharing this with us. I am so glad that I stumbled upon it! It brought tears to my eyes.

  • Fiona Patterson says:

A massive thank you to everyone at Get Up for their outstanding work to bring this coverage to us.

  • H Wind says:

Thank you Christina – You have a powerful voice and the case you put is not only yours but ours too.

I am over forty years older than you, but you spoke for me too – as if i had been able to attend in person.

I hope you can continue to put our message to your fellow delegates. May our support even from so far away strengthen you all in your task of representing us

You are part of the process of creating one world for all our peoples

    Again I thank you.

  • Lindy Warrell says:

How marvellous GetUp. You are doing a brilliant job to bring this to us.

  • Tom Swann says:

Stirring rhetoric, fills me with hope.

  • Sara says:

Go Christina, her words are really inspiring!

  • Mark says:

Both intelligent and inspirational. If all the delegates and negotiators in Copenhagen were born in 1992, then we’d have a Fair, Ambitious and Binding treaty as well. We need to empower the people who have the greatest stake in the climate change debate–the world’s youth. Thank you for speaking out for them Christina!

  • Kate says:

By referencing the link between her birth year and the start date of negotiations in 1992 Christina underlined just the reason that real progress needs to come from Copenhagen – this has been going on for so long!
I’m so pleased she was able to attend!

  • Jill says:

I hope the negotiators hear Christina’s message! Her speech was brilliant – she did an amazing job representing youth at the conference!

  • Elle says:

Wow Christina is amazing- I wonder how many negotiators have been there since the 1992 talks?!
