From the Pacific to Copenhagen, donations from GetUp members helped send a group of five impressive young delegates from the Pacific Islands. Their messages have been vital at these talks. They have let the world know their homes are already under urgent threat from climate change.

And their words echoed from an address in the plenary session to interviews with press from around the world. Their stories have helped wake this conference up to the scale of the global challenge we all face together.

We’ve put together this video so you can hear directly from the delegates themselves on why being at COP15 is so important to them, and the countries they represent. Click below to hear directly from Christina, Carlos, Paul, Luana and Rikana.

Reports are coming in that Kevin Rudd has been bullying our Pacific neighbours at the conference – many countries that these young delegates come from. Click here to call Stand up to Rudd the bully.

Thank you Get Up for giving the ordinary citizen a means to help the young people of the Pacific Islands. It was a privilege to feel part of the Copenhagen summit , in a small way. The video was a great way to share with those of us who have sent in donations.
    Thanks again.

I’m proud to share a first name with such an inspiring young woman as Christina Ora. I heard her interviewed by Philip Adams on Late Night Live last year and was impressed even then.
Nothing in politics ever happens quickly – even the fall of the Berlin Wall didn’t happen overnight, though it seemed to do so. Anything worth doing will be done if enough of us want it so. All it takes is perseverence; nothing can withstand steady, constant action. So don’t be disillusioned or too hard on those politicians whom we elected to represent us.
They were the best around at the time, and probably still are, but they are caught up in the cogs of the system and cannot act alone even though they would prefer to.
We, the people, can’t act alone either – which is why we put our hearts and minds behind GetUp and other such groups.
Take heart! Stay positive, and persevere. Bullying our politicians won’t help. We just have to keep reminding them whom they represent, without forgetting the good they (and therefore we) have accomplished so far.
    Together we’ll get there.

Result has not been so good GetUp but I just want to say you gave it your best and I appreciated it greatly. I did not feel that I was just an observer biting my nails to the quick. You kept us informed and we signed petitions, spoke on radio, rang the pollies, marched in the streets. What more could we do?? History will show our efforts.
It was the best thing to do to bring the young people into the fray and they did excellently. If that had not happened it would have been totally disappointing. They were magnificent and made me proud (to have helped them) and I hope they will continue with the fight. I have a 17 year old son and I know a lot of 17 year olds who are off holidaying and looking after themselves but these young people were in there and fighting for the lives of themselves and their countrymen. It ’s not over yet so I hope you can continue…Keep up the great work!
    We will do it!
    Cheers
    Nea

Thank you for this video of such beautiful, committed young people. After the depressing news of the ‘accord’ this morning, it warmed that gloomy, cold spot in this oldie’s heart. Now we need to take the action back to our individual countries and force the politicians to do better than what is in the accord we’re not having when we have an accord.

The phone number given for Kevin Rudd’s hotel is incorrect – they say they do not have him there at the Raddison Copenhagen.

Can we find the right hotel?
